Bucket List 2021: Ringing In A New Year In Mexico

Five years ago, on New Year’s day, I said “Yes” to becoming engaged while in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It was my first adventure to the area, and I knew we had to return one day. Thanks to ATKG’s Bucket List program, my husband, Eddie, and I did precisely that.

Growing up in a Hispanic family, we often traveled to Mexico to visit my mother’s family over the summers. Monterrey, Mexico City, Acapulco, and its cliff divers – we saw it all, including day trips to local ruins. I was intrigued by the majesty behind the building of the temples. I often wondered, “How did people build such awe-inspiring sites by hand?” I couldn’t wrap my mind around it.

Tulum, Mexico

As Eddie and I planned our trip, we knew seeing Tulum, which was less than an hour from Playa del Carmen, was a must-do. Spending time learning about the Mayan culture, the level of intelligence for the time they dwelled, and their everyday life was remarkable. We also explored the jungles and cenotes in Xel-Ha that were simply breathtaking.

After living through such an unprecedented year as 2020, the time spent walking on the beach seeing the vast shades of blue in the ocean waters, the velvety sand between our toes, and the special moments spent celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary assured us we couldn’t have chosen a more memorable trip to hold deep in our hearts the rest of our lives.

Undoubtedly, ATKG’s Bucket List program has left Eddie and me with so many “Remember when…” moments to make us smile and relive the precious gift ATKG’s partnership gave us because that’s the ATKG Life, and it’s incredible!
