Marcus Cantu joined ATKG as a permanent employee in the summer of 2016. He is set to graduate with a Master of Accountancy from the University of Texas at San Antonio and will pursue his CPA licensure shortly after graduation. Unique among ATKGers, Marcus holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, which he also received from UTSA. He spent a number of years as management in the food service industry before starting his career in Public Accounting. While in food service, Marcus traveled to yummy destinations such as Sonoma, Napa, La Jolla, Los Angeles, New York and Cabo San Lucas to enjoy the unique culinary flair of each.
Marcus is involved with the San Antonio Certified Public Accountant Society as the Student Auxiliary Committee Chair and is a member of the Involvement Committee. His passion for mentoring the new generation of accountants on their career journey is fulfilled by organizing opportunities for students to network with local professionals through the Society. As a member of the Involvement Committee, Marcus has participated in volunteer opportunities such as Haven for Hope. He also is affiliated with the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting as a prior student chapter president at UTSA.
Born and raised in Texas, Marcus looks forward to outdoor activities. Listening to the Randy Rodgers Band while floating the Frio River is definitely his idea of a relaxing day off. Marcus also spends time on his mountain bike, playing sand volleyball, and hitting the gym – all in an effort to afford him the ability to try new food and beverages. With his culinary background, Marcus likes to experiment with food. His current fav? Maple bacon-wrapped cranberry orange breakfast muffins. Great news for us – he shares!
